    This turned out to be a problem with the sym53c416
    driver and sg in lk 2.2.16 , not a problem with SMP.
    Basically the sg driver in lk 2.2.16 breaks the
    sym53c416 driver. This problem is not found prior to
    lk 2.2.16 and will be fixed in lk 2.2.17 . For those
