Just some of the stupid questions first.
- You have only connected the SCSI cable (not also the USB) ?
- there is no other SCSI device on the bus with same ID as the scanner ?
- is the "/usr/local/etc/sane.d/epson.conf" (or where it is located on your system) correct
- have you tried the 2.08 version ?

I will just try to test with the scsi cable also (USB is SLOW with dpi > 600)
