An update....
<snipped stuff about getting the Error Message:
sane_start: Error during device I/O>
I have tried to updrade to the latest version of sane but got an
error message....
only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version
of rpm
... so I gave up on that an tried the suggestions given re the debug level
which produced the following output which to be honest I can't make
head nor tail of and am hoping that somebody here can :-)
apologies if there is too much info here - guess I could have snipped
most of it except the last 20 or so lines but wasn't sure.
[sanei_init_debug]: Setting debug level of microtek to 255.

[microtek] sane_exit: MICROTEK says goodbye.
Finally I re read the man pages and remembered the lines about changing
the params in the .conf file - I gave this a go - (stupidly I haven't got
the details
at work with me so can't post them accurately but changing the 2nd paramater
made no difference at all but the first one in the conf file seemed to get a
bit
more action - the scanner burped and seemed as though it was trying to start
scanning....but then didn't and hung with an error message that suggested
something similar to what the above output ie can't get device status....
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions of what to look at next?
Thanks
