    Hi,

I'm trying to get the Epson GT-6500 to work with SANE.

I installed SANE 1.0.3 according to the instructions on RedHat 6.1.

The scanner is connected via SCSI.

    I created a link from /dev/scanner to /dev/sg2.

    Output of 'find-svcanner':
    find-scanner: checking /dev/scanner... open ok
find-scanner: found processor "EPSON SC ANNER GT-6500 1.17" at device
    /dev/scanner
    ...
    find-scanner: checking /dev/sg2... open ok
find-scanner: found processor "EPSON SC ANNER GT-6500 1.17" at
    device /dev/sg2
    ...
    find-scanner: checking /dev/sgc... open ok
find-scanner: found processor "EPSON SC ANNER GT-6500 1.17" at device
    /dev/sgc

So I edited /usr/local/etc/sane.d/epson.conf to contain:
    scsi EPSON
    /dev/scanner

But doing a scanimage -L results in:
    [epson] ident failed
    and hangs.

I tried to set SANE_DEBUG_EPSON to 8 and got the following output when
    starting scanimage -L:
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of epson to 8.
    [epson] sane_init: sane 1.0.3
    [epson] sane_init, >scsi EPSON<
    [epson] sane_init, >scsi EPSON<
    [epson] SANE Epson Backend v0.1.33 - 2000-07-29
    [epson] attach(/dev/sgc)
    [epson] attach: opening /dev/sgc
    [epson] attach: sending INQUIRY
    [epson] >EPSON SCANNER GT-6500 1.17<
[epson] send buf, size = 2
    [epson] receive buf, expected = 4, got = 4
    [epson] code 06
    [epson] get_identity_information()
[epson] send buf, size = 2
    [epson] ident failed
    [epson] sane_init, >/dev/scanner<
    [epson] sane_init, >/dev/scanner<
    [epson] SANE Epson Backend v0.1.33 - 2000-07-29
    [epson] attach(/dev/scanner)
    [epson] attach: opening /dev/scanner

After the last message I can only terminate scanimage by ctrl-c.

Any idea what could be wrong? According to
    http://www.mostang.com/sane/sane-backends.html this scanner should work
at least on parallel interface. i use scsi which might be the problem ...?
But how can I make it work on scsi???

    Peter
