I recently tried that one :
1) Disconnect scanner from the SCSI chain ....
2) Put the scanner on the ground, near a big airport.
3) Ask a big plane ( Boing, Concorde ) to crash on the scanner.
4) Reconnect the scanner to the system. It should now work.
