Siegfried,
the 2.3.42 backport does not work, you can either use the 2.3.39
backport or the latest 2.3.99preXXX plus a new scanner.c file
(or a patch). There was a problem with EPSON scanners and pretty
much every kernel after 3.3.39 that was resolved around 2.3.99pre8.
