What do you get if you do 'telnet frakir 6566'?

Tru to run scanimage with SANE_DEBUG_NET=128 to get more debug info.

Could it be that the mustek backend produces unexpected output like
the microtek backend? This would garble the protocol communications.

Try my earlier syslog patch,
<URL:http://www.mostang.com/mail-archive/sane-devel/1999-09/0008.html>,
to make sure debug info is sendt to syslog if stderr is a socket.
