Try lineart mode with 300dpi. The scanner mustn't pause then if
everything is set up correctly. However, if it does, then there
is certainly a problem with the SCSI card or your memory is
insufficient.

A 4 MByte buffer is acquired at the very beginning, and as the image
isn't that large then, it should be read without pausing.
