xscanimage with Gimp

I can't launch xscanimage with Gimp, it reply :
# gimp
~/.gimp/plug-ins/xscanimage: GIMP support missing.
wire-read: unexpected EOF (plug-in crashed?)
Anybody can help me ?
(Patrice HARDOUIN, HP scanjet 5p at /dev/sgc, xscanimage avalaible)
