This isn't really a sane issue, but I'm not presently sure where
else to go for help. I'm *hoping* there's a nice answer to this.
My scanner (AGFA SnapScan 600 on its AHA1505AE) just stopped
mid-scan and try as I may I can't get it to come back. I suspect
that there is a hard fault (is there any way I can test that?).
Since it died I've tried various tricks to bring it back to
life including "echo add-single-etc...", "echo remove-...",
reboots, and so on. Mostly these appear to do nothing significant.
BTW, I've always had a problem with the scsi-generic driver
attaching the scanner to /dev/sga at bootup, rather than
/dev/sgg, so I add the scanner later using the "echo" trick.
My suspicion that the scanner itself may be sick is fuelled by
the following entries from syslog.
When it worked....
-----------8<-----------------------------------------------------
Dec 7 15:32:19 mellifera linux: Vendor: AGFA Model: SNAPSCAN 600 Rev: 1.20
Dec 7 15:32:19 mellifera linux: Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 02
-----------8<-----------------------------------------------------
Now it doesn't work....
-----------8<-----------------------------------------------------
Apr 19 17:52:01 mellifera linux: Vendor: Model: Rev:
Apr 19 17:52:01 mellifera linux: Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 02
-----------8<-----------------------------------------------------
So it can see it's scanner, but can't actually get an ident
from it. Any idea what's going on here, how I can check things,
or where I should look/go for help?
Thanks, regards,
Gordon.
