Errors compiling sane

Hi:
I have downloaded sane-1.00.tar.gz. I have libgimp1.0.0 and libgtk1.0.5
(came with Caldera v1.3 CD). When I try to compile sane, I get:

There were no errors in config.log. What am I missing here?
