Yes - just had the same problem with an HP 6200: in my case the
scanning lamp was turning on the minute I plugged it in, and I thought
this was abnormal (seems not, though). I usually say I'm running W-9x
(I could be) and translate their answers into Linux terms, but this
time I admitted Linux up front. The tech support lady tried to tell me
sorry, we only support Windows 95/98/NT, and I kept telling her it was
happening before the computer was even turned on, took a couple of
tries before she got it, and she still didn't stop repeating the
mantra.

This is one good reason to keep a small W-9x partition around - so you
can talk to the tech support people.

On the other hand, in a recent call to Compaq over something else, I
made sure to phrase the question in W-98 terms, but the truth finally
came out, and the techie said, oh Linux, why didn't you say so! Too
bad they don't make scanners.
