sanei_scsi can't open /dev/scanner for some reason. Maybe it doesn't
exist or doesn't point to the correct /dev/sg* device. I don't know
however, why the automatic detection doesn't work.

What's the output of sane-find-scanner?

Please try another debug run with an additional
SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_SCSI=255 to see more debug information. Please send
it directly to me as this can be rather big.
