I'm currently using an ISA interface but I got the same results from a
    SCSI interface

I'm using the most recent supported BIOS update ( 1007.A for my P5A )
there are beta BIOS available but I prefer to stay away from them.

    Yes and yes.

I would like to avoid doing this but I used to have the 330 MHz CPU in
this motherboard and I believe the scanning behaved the same way.

As I can get good scans running TWAIN, I'm doubtful that I have a
    hardware problem.

Are there any ways of tweaking the SCSI driver properties?

    Cheers,
