    what about "japi"?
    Does it work?
    If yes: then we should add a good instruction how to install it,
      create Makefiles for it etc. But I don`t think it should be kept
      in the sane backend package.
    If no: we should remove it. It looks like there is no one
      working on it since 2 or 3 years.

    I see no problem to make a xscanimage+xcam package.
    Is scanadf an X based frontend or a command line frontend?
