    I have a Smynantec 875 and a CD writer on ID 4 and my scanner is ID 6.
    Almost the same as you have.

    my cat /proc/scsi/scsi is (I have Kernel 2.2.16):

    Attached devices:
    Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 04 Lun: 00
      Vendor: SCSI-CD Model: ReWritable-2x2x6 Rev: 2.00
      Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
    Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
      Vendor: SCANNER Model: Rev: V100
      Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 01 CCS

    Output of "dir /dev/scanner":
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root scanner 3 Jan 14 14:47 /dev/scanner -> sg1

    my Output:

    device `mustek:/dev/scanner' is a Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP (Plus) flatbed
    scanner

    Only if you enabled the dummy PNM backend.
    Are you sure your mustek.conf file is correct (containinng correct devices)
    and that your dll.conf file of sane contains the mustek backend ?
