/dev/scanner is not a scanner, but the device your scanner is attached on.
if you type "scanimage -L" you should see (at least) one line saying :
device 'epson:/dev/scanner' is a Epson ......
Then, type "scanimage -d epson --help" to have a list of options for your
Epson scanner.
And now, type "scanimage -d epson _your_options_ > your_filename.pnm"
