Great idea. A suggestion: Some installation issues appear again and
again on this mailing list, like device file permissions, or modules and
module configuration under Linux. Some tips for error checking would
also be useful, like understanding the output from "cat
/proc/scsi/scsi". Similar tips for other OSes would of course also be
    useful.

Much of this stuff is strictly speaking not an issue of Sane, but of
general Linux configuration. But Sane is sort of an "entry point" to
SCSI stuff for many users: A few days ago, I heard the story, that
someone tried to use his scanner under Linux, and therefore installed
Sane. When xscanimage did not list his scanner, he thought that he
should get and install the most recent version of Sane. Of course, this
did not help, because he did not knew that he must configure the SCSI
adapter... May sound silly, but probably there will be more and more
users who will have problems like this one, as Linux becomes more widely
    used.
