    Hi Tim,

    please try two things:

    1.: Use hp.conf with only one line

    /dev/scanner

    2.: Use

    export SANE_DEBUG_HP=128

    and run

     (x)scanimage hp > hp.lis 2>&1

    to get mor information where the backend might crash.

    What version of the USB module are you using ? The support for HP4200C
    is pretty new.
