A bug in the backend? (microtek2)

After reading all docs for sane 1.0.1 and sane-microtek2 backend, I
realize that they should support scanning in lineart and halftone with
    my scanner (Microtek Scanmaker X6).

The scanner is correctly recognized, and sane uses just the right
    backend for it:

    ,----
    | $ scanimage -L
    | device `microtek2:/dev/sg2' is a Microtek ScanMaker X6 / Phantom 636
    | flatbed scanner
    `----
Which is exactly what it is. However:
    ,----
    | Modes: Lineart: No
    | Halftone: No
    | Gray: Yes
    | Color: Yes
    `----

    From sane-microtek2 man page:
    ,----
    | At present, the following scanners are known positively to
    | work with this backend:
    | Vendor Product id: Remark:
    | -------- -------------- -----------
    | Microtek X6 all modes ok
    | [...]
    | The following options are supported by the
    | Microtek2-driver:
    |
    | Color, grayscale, halftone and lineart scans.
    `----

Sane was installed from sources. Running Linux 2.2.14, glibc2.1.

Does this look like a bug in the sane-microtek2 backend? If so, where
do I submit it? The man page lists Bernd Schroeder as the author of
the backend, but gives no contact info.
