Thank you. But it still doesn't work:

chance# scanimage -v -l
scanimage: no SANE devices found
chance# scanimage -T -v -d mustek:/dev/ss0
scanimage: open of device mustek:/dev/ss0 failed: Error during device I/O

I tried to make the device world-readable and world-writable, but it
didn't work better.
