Hi,
please do
export SANE_DEBUG_UMAX=12
xscanimage
and send me the output (you can also try xscanimage 2>out.txt
but if your system frezese the file normally does not contain all information).
Is the scanner the only device you use?
How is the scsi bus terminated?
How long are the scsi cables?
What connectors are at the scsi cable between scanner/scsi-controller?
