I had nothing important to do this weekend, so .....
.... I worked a bit on the preview of xsane.
It is not ready, but I think it is what all you are looking for!
You can move the selected area with the middle or right mouse button,
You can edit the selected area with the left mouse button pressed next to an
edge
of the selected area.
You can resize the preview window now (I hope this does always work now)!
There is an experimental preview zoom.
