That does look like SANE. ;-)

What does the frontend look like? From what you're saying, it's
neither xsane nor xscanimage. If so, is it a full-blown frontend that
adapts to the options available in the backend?

Quite possible. But very confusing. How is a Linux user supposed to
know what TWAIN is?? ;-))
