That is one big IF. There are many scanners which do support turning off the
UI. But those that do not support this outnumber the decent ones. Some TWAIN
sources crash and bring down the machine if used without the UI enabled.

If you were on the TWAIN list , you would find that almost every week
somebody pipes up with this question of how to turn off the UI, only to be
disappointed.
