Scanner problem

I recently installed sane 1.00 with the patch for Microtek X6EL scanner
and it generally works fine except for one problem. The problem is
that after a few good scans, in all subsequent scans there is always a
bright vertical line corresponding to the middle of the scanner bed.
This problem goes away if I recycle the scanner power but I am afraid
that the scanner is being damaged somehow. During some scans I hear a
short buzzing sounds that suggest the scanner motor is being over
driven or something like that. Has anyone seen similar problem ? And
solution ?
