There is no need to allow / accept other then the maintainer to change
backend code. You developers must decide how to organize yourself,
and I would expect nothing to change with areas of responsibility.
The point is to ease source synchronization and make it more available
to all.

There is no reason for this not to continue.

I would expect that David would be allowed to change any code, and the
driver maintainers are allowed to change their driver, but it is up to
you do decide.
