I have not yet seen such a beast, but it would be very interesting.
The nice thing about them is, that if the vendor doesn't give out the
protocol, the tools for reverse-engineering it are easily available :-).

Please note, that SANE has its own net interface, and if someone who knows
Windoze and Twain would finally make a frontend for that (hint hint), you
could do that with SANE with any scanner attached to a Unix box.
