mustek mustave died

I just acquired a broken Mustek 8000SP and have started
looking at the sane package. It isn't completely broken
since it did produce a test scan in a small window ONCE
when I installed the w95 driver.

My machine already has an ncr53c810a and the scanner
came with an ncr53(c?)40.

I have noticed that in one of the man pages (sane-scsi ?)
you suggest increasing a timeout for the 810 at a line
with something like np->latetimeout.

But looking at the source ncr53c8xx.c for linux 2.0.33
the existing constant is in fact 0 and not 10.

Right now it is academic since the scanner isn't even
detected through the 810 by the Award scsi bios at boot
let alone the kernel.

I have yet to apply the mustek-scsi patch for the 5340.
Currently loading g_ncr.. for it locks up.

The machine itself seems ok. I might replace the
80C51 (Philips/Intel inside) since they're cheap
and it's in a socket and close to the scsi port.
