| Any advice on upgrading a working GIMP, SANE 0.69, Microtek
| E-3 with 1502AE Card, under Linux RH 5.0 to the SANE 0.72
| versiion ? Are there advantages? Disadvantages? Thanks people

I just did and had no problems; in fact, everything works GREAT. My
setup is exactly the same as yours execpt I have an E6. Two important
things: you must upgrade your gtk, and probably glibc. gtk+ 1.0.0 was
just released. Since you have RH, you can do all this with rpm... very
nice. So, get glibc-2.0.7 from a redhat site (in the upgrades
directory), gtk+ and gimp from, say, ftp://s9412a.steinan.ntnu.no/pub/gimp
(this guy has the latest gimp & gtk stuff rpm-ized right after the new
versions are out, he is very cool, you might want to bookmarks this
sucker ;) and of course get the lastest SANE rpms from a redhat site
(e.g., ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/hurricane/i386). You will
probably need to rpm --erase your old gimp first, or do a --force because
of a dependency on a specific older version of gtk.
SANE is great! And it keeps me SANE by not having to boot into that
other shitty OS to scan.
