Which version are you using? Since 0.57 or thereabouts "configure"
prints a big fat message that you should read the file PROBLEMS before
trying out SANE. I don't think putting the warning message in the man
page would help more (it's usually too late by the time people read
man-pages).

As for the length: the MFC-06000CZ is assumed to have a length of
300mm, which is definitely correct and safe for my Paragon 600 II SP
scanner (and many other MFC-06000CZ scanners). Why do you think the
backend is using a value of 355mm?
