    Dear Petter and Henning,

    Thanks for all of your help. I just redid the complete configure/make/install
    cycle and for some reason the .so libraries got made this time so scanimage
    and even xscanimage are quite happy. Must just have been one of those
    annoying hiccups computers have sometimes.
