    To give some data: saned.c was added in sane-0.42. The alarm(300) call
    was added at this time, too. The watchdog function itsself appeared in
    0.50 when the standalone function (saned -d) was added. For all these
    changes David Mosberger-Tang is marked as author. However, in the
    source code of saned, Andreas Beck is named as author.
