Sorry for yelling but I can't believe my scanner is working. No idea why
except perhaps the list was getting tired of hearing from me. :-)
This morning I once again untarred Sane-backends-1.0.4 and then copied over
the snapscan-20010411 files.
1) I edited snapscan.h and replaced PRISA620S for both FlatbedScanner13 and
FlatbedScanner16 with SNAPSCAN600.
2) I edited snapscan.conf and added the line: scsi Color. I also added
/dev/usb/scanner0 (it had originally been usb /dev/usb/scanner0).
3) I did a ./configure; make; make install
4) I did an ldconfig (/etc/ld.so.conf shows /usr/local/lib plus two other
entries unrelated to sane).
5) scanimage -L returned with:
device `snapscan:/dev/usb/scanner0" is a Color FlatbedScanner16 flatbed
scanner. Again this is a little different than before where it said
snapscan:usb /dev/usb/scanner0. No idea if this was the critical change I
needed or not.
In any case, the scanner is now working with xsane and xscanimage, full
color, no horrible noises.
Thanks again for everyone's help.
All the best,
Paul
