    For details ask David Mosberger-Tang. He wrote a mail about the
    current system some time ago on this list, you may find it in the list
    archive. IIRC he wanted to update the mail system when he has time to
    do it.

    My experience is: Only if you are subscribed to the list you can write
    to it. If you aren't subscribed your mail will be ignored (no message
    is sent back to inform you about this, it's just a black hole). This
    happened to me about 5 times because I used an email address different
    from that one I used for subscribing. Sometimes these mails are
    approved and sent to the list manually later. However ...

    ... I haven't ever seen this. I was removed from the list twice, but
    the reason was a problem with my mail server (DNS problem, I think).
