... very interesting! My Canon FS 2710 does not seem to be able to
set brightness, contrast, etc., too; perhaps it is a new fashion
not to have these controls?
If you have to do a minor adjustment of contrast, gamma, hue, etc.,
doing it with the frontend or with a graphics editor program after
scanning is OK and probably even more comfortable. But if you want
to do a major correction, like brightening an underexposed photo,
you will see colour fringes: Whereever the density curve is very
steep, only very few input values are mapped to a wide range of
output values. If the scanner is well designed, storing the density
curve in the scanner eliminates this problem.
