    The information I have says that you will need to get developer
    documeentation for the 1394 chipset inside whatever scanner you are trying
    to port.

    There are very few manufacturers of 1394 chipsets so, this should not be too
    difficult.

    Please let me know if my information is not correct.

    Interesting. Some people have complained their SCSI and USB scanners are
    slow when using SANE. How fast does your Epson scan, with what should be
    a pretty high performance interface? (SCSI should be fast, its true, but
    the crummy SCSI interfaces on most scanner aren't really capable of high
    throughput).
