Hello,
If this is a kernel-related question that should better go to linux-kernel or
the problem has already been discussed, please tell me. I've searched the
mailing list archive and haven't found a solution, so I'm asking you.
I have an AGFA SnapScan 1236 S (=SCSI) scanner connected to an AVA 1505AE
SCSI adapter card. I could use it in 2.2.x kernels, but in 2.4.0-test kernels
it stopped working. I can insmod the aha152x module necessary for the SCSI
card and an
echo "scsi add-single-device 1 0 2 0" > /proc/scsi/scsi
results in /proc/scsi/scsi telling me it found the scanner and also
find-scanner works as before. But when I start XSane (0.61) and select
"snapscan:/dev/sgc" as the device for my scanner, it just hangs. My version
of sane is 1.0.3 and the debug log (SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255,
SANE_DEBUG_SNAPSCAN=255) says something like this:
[...]
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_open (/dev/scanner, 0xbffff288)
[snapscan] find_device
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_open: allocated scanner structure at 0x81144c8
[snapscan] open_scanner
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_open: waiting for scanner to warm up.
[snapscan] wait_scanner_ready
[snapscan] test_unit_ready
[snapscan] request_sense
[snapscan] sense_handler(27, 0xbffff064, 0x81144c8)
[snapscan] sense_handler: sense key is invalid.
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_open: performing scanner self test.
[snapscan] send_diagnostic
The kernel is unmodified (just reiserfs patch) and sane and xsane were
installed from sources (no rpm or deb packages).
I have tried to "downgrade" to a 2.2.x kernel, but the color preview in XSane
wouldn't work anymore.
Thank you for reading this...
Marcel
