It doesn't seem to work for my Agfa 1212U. I did have sane-1.0.3
working but can't find my old source tree -- I suspect I've
overwritten it with the new files. "scanimage -T" now hangs for a
minute or so:
---->
[tim@freeman]$ scanimage -T
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of snapscan to 255.
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_init
[snapscan] add_device(/dev/usb/scanner0)
[snapscan] mini_inquiry
<----
(Waits for about a minute here)
---->
[snapscan] mini_inquiry: sanei_scsi_cmd command failed: Error during device I/O
[snapscan] add_device: mini_inquiry failed with Error during device I/O.
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_get_devices (0xbffff7d4, 0)
scanimage: no SANE devices found
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_exit
<----
I don't know what changed, or why it blocks for a minute now.

With the older sane-1.0.3 with hand-applied usb patches, I had it
working with ID string "SNAPSCAN 1212U" and model enum
"SNAPSCAN1236S". It scanned at 600dpi OK. So -- my summary:
Agfa 1212U
SNAPSCAN 1212U
Doesn't work
600dpi
SNAPSCAN1236S
