Yes. The "horizontal" resolution is typically determined by the CCD array
(its density, and the optics that shine the image on it) and the vertical
by the transport. For flatbed scanners, the "transport" is the bar. For
page scanners, the transport is the feeder.
Of course this is not the case for area area devices, like digital cameras.
These have an area of CCD sensors instead of the single row in a scanner.
