The following is a message I posted on alt.os.linux.turbolinux which is the
dist. of Linux I'm using (version 6.0, for reference).

    > Okay, I've finally got the SCSI card (Tekram DC-390F) to find the scanner.
    > It reports as follows:
    > Vendor ID: HP
    > Product ID: C6270A
    > Product Revision Level: 3828
    > Device Type: Processor
    > SCSI Version: SCSI II
    > Synchronous Transfer: Not Supported
    > Linked Command: Not Supported
    > Tagged Command Queueing: Not Supported
    > SCAM Protocol: Supported
    > SCSI Bus Width: 8 bits
    > (and it's on SCSI ID 6)
    >
    > Fine and dandy, but TurboLinux and the programs related to SANE still
    don't
    > seem to be able to find the scanner, despite the fact that the SCSI card
    > did. There is NOT a file /dev/scanner right now, might I have to
    > symbolically link that to something else in the system to get this to
    work?
