SUMMARY: scanimage gives:
scanimage: open of device hp:/dev/scanner failed: Invalid argument
and no devices are found.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hi
We have an old HP IIp scanner.
Linux (Red Hat 6.0) sees the scanner on boot:
---------------------------------------------
cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:

-------------------------------------------------------
We also have a polaroid slide scanner (as you can see from the list
above) and that works fine with vuescan.
However, with sane 1.0.2 installed,
scanimage --help -d hp:/dev/scanner
gives me this:
---------------------------------------------
Usage: scanimage [OPTION]...
Start image acquisition on a scanner device and write PNM image data
to
standard output.
-b, --batch=FORMAT working in batch mode
-d, --device-name=DEVICE use a given scanner device
-h, --help display this help message and exit
-L, --list-devices show available scanner devices
-T, --test test backend thoroughly
-v, --verbose give even more status messages
-V, --version print version information
scanimage: open of device hp:/dev/scanner failed: Invalid argument
Type ``scanimage --help -d DEVICE'' to get list of all options for
DEVICE.
List of available devices:
---------------------------------------------
There is NO list of available devices.
BTW, I have set
SANE_DEBUG_HP=255
and
SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_SCSI=255
before running the above commands, **but I get no debug output** !!
Weird ?
I don't know whether our file system config has upset it - we use the
Eidelon File System Standard, so src and binaries/libs are in /store/p1, with
links across the system to /share/links/linux/lib,
/share/links/linux/bin etc. All our other programs which use this
system work OK.
dll.conf looks like this:
hp:/dev/scanner
abaton
agfafocus
apple
avision
artec
etc etc.
hp.conf looks like this:
/dev/scanner
(I also tried it like this:
scsi HP
/dev/scanner
).
Also, /dev/scanner is a link to /dev/sgc, and I've tried using that
instead of /dev/scanner - no joy.
find/scanner gives this:
find-scanner: found processor "HP C1790A 3226" at device /dev/scanner
find-scanner: found processor "HP C1790A 3226" at device /dev/sg2
find-scanner: found scanner "POLAROID 35MM 1.00" at device /dev/sg3
find-scanner: found processor "HP C1790A 3226" at device /dev/sgc
find-scanner: found scanner "POLAROID 35MM 1.00" at device /dev/sgd
Any thoughts ?
Regards,
Pete
