CVS access to SANE unstable development version

Here is a small reminder and a quick status report on the current
unstable development version of SANE. The latest snapshot is
<URL:http://www.student.uit.no/~pere/linux/sane/sane-devel-19991212.tar.gz>,
but I hope to get a new one out the door, as soon as the missing
backends are ready for inclusion.

A few updates are already in CVS, fetch the latest snapshot and run
'cvs login; cvs update' to get an up to date version, or read
<URL:http://www.student.uit.no/~pere/linux/sane/cvs-server.html> for
more information on CVS access.

As named by Oliver Rauch in november, the current phase is 'keep the
CVS code up to date'. I suggest the following time scale to move for
a new release. The next phase, 'test the CVS version' will begin as
soon as the Linux SCSI patch is included, along with the latest
backend versions and the new video4linux backends. I hope this will
be complete within 14 days.

After a 24 day test period we enter an code freeze. No new backend
versions, and only bugfixes and documentation updates. This period
will last 14 days - when a new SANE release should be ready.

All backend maintainers will be given CVS write access after clearing
the issue with David Mosberger-Tang. I want David to have some kind
of control, and do not want to do the screening myself. Davis seems
to be a busy person, so have patients. The best solution for me is to
have the maintainers updating their own backend directly into CVS.
This way I don't have to check a lot of web pages to detect if a new
version is available.

Any comments.

I belive the SCSI patch mentioned in
<URL:http://www.mostang.com/mail-archive/sane-devel/1999-10/0243.html>
will need lots of testing to make sure it works on all Linux kernels.
Maybe someone could give it a try before we include it in CVS.
