Hello,

I am a newbie to this mailing list and wonder whether anyone could
answer a few questions.

1) I have an Epsom perfection 1200S scanner, which uses the SCSI card supplied,
which is an Adaptec 2903B, which uses the AIC-7850 PCI SCSI controller driver.
Is anyone developing any software for this SCSI card and/or scanner?

2) If no one is developing anything at present, what is involved in
developing the drivers?

3) I want to scan in black and white images containing text and pictures,
such as found in newspapers, books, etc. And I want to be able to print
these images to my black & printer, a HP 5MP (i.e. 600 dpi postscript
printer). I have tried various options in scanning without entirely good
results. The image is stored by default as JPEG with the software supplied
by Epsom (which runs under windows-95). The software allows the following
options:
1 bit; 8 bit grey-scale; 24 bit colour
1200dpi, 600dpi, 400dpi, etc. (plus interpolated of 9600dpi and 7800dpi)
The best results are obtained by scanning at higher resolutions using 8
bit grey-scale. However, these result in very large files, and postscript
files that are too large for the printer.
How do I obtain the best results without having to upgrade my computer
and printer with gigabytes of memory?

Regards
Harry
