OK, so it did work on your old system, and on your laptop with previous
software. Hmm.
I've got two immediate suggestions:
1. since you have a SnapScan 300, you could try using the experimental
1.0 version of the backend available on my web page. I'm using this
version with SANE 1.0.1 and kernel 2.2.10 (I think) and it works
fine.
You might want to revert to SANE-1.0.1 or even SANE-1.0 from the
development snapshot. It could be that something in the snapshot
is not fully tested, and this is part of the problem.
2. If I remember correctly, Wolfgang Goeller was saying on the mailing
list that there are some parameters that you have to give the
aha 152x driver to get it to work properly with the 1505 scsi
card. Are you setting these parameters? (His message was about
a week or ten days ago, and should be in the list archives)

OK.

Yes, you should be able to get a SnapScan 300 working just fine. (At
least mine works fine, and with a similar scsi card).
Let me know if any of this works.
