I changed some routines around loading and saving device settings that
could cause segmentation faults.

I think the problem with the canon backend and may be with the hp backend
is solved now. It now also should work if you load a device setting with mode
"lineart" is loaded.

But the format of the "*.drc" file has changed, please use xsane-convert-to-0.46
to convert old "*.drc" files.
