Greetings all.

I might add that I have the same problem. Red Hat 6.0,
sane-1.0.1-4, xsane .38, etc. I'm using a Umax 1220 and at
one time did have the xscanimage working but couldn't get
the "acquire image" option on the gimp either. Later,
I started "up-dating" the xsane program to .40. After
recompiling I too got the "segmentation fault" problem.

Reading the xsane.PROBLEM readme file I went through
the recommended list of "fixes". ( i.e. Being sure that only one
sane is installed, and that the rc.conf file contained the
sane library, etc.)

So, at one time I did have everything (xsane, etc) working
but now I keep getting the segmentation problem also.
Should I just delete the libraries, and start from scratch
or ????

Any clues?

Thanks in advance.

as i already told you, i have downloadaed and installed the new backends
but the result is the same:

xsane.
