I've managed to get everything working by installing SANE from the FreeBSD ports
collection.
I tried configuring the source with --enable-shared, and with no options to
configure, but the shared libraries never built. Maybe (most probably) I was
doing something wrong?
In the end, I used the FreeBSD port of SANE, and everything seemed to work OK.
As far as the Sharp backend goes, I've had no problems with it at all. I've
scanned approx. 25-30 photos today and everything's been just fine.
If there are any specific tests you'd like me to do, please feel free to let me
know. Unfortunately the SCSI card is 'borrowed' from my desktop at work until I
get around to buying one myself, so I'm limited to only using it at weekends :(
Thanks should go to The SANE development team, yourself and Kazuya for writing
SANE and the sharp backend, and giving me yet another bit of ammunition to help
get rid of certain 'other' OS's at work :)
