Hi Tom,
that would work as well:
scanimage -w 100 -h50 -x 0 -y 0 --add_selection -x 200 -y 500 --add_selection -x
0 -y 500

The options are passed to the backend in the order they are give on the command
line. So it is the
same as you move the sliders and press the buttons on the frontend!
