Microtek X6EL problem

I am getting a bright vertical line all the middle of scanned images.
I am using the following:

-> Microtek X6EL (firmware v. 1.40)
-> sane 1.0.1
-> microtek2 backend v.07

The only clue I have is that this problem occurs after hearing a
short "buzzing" sound during scan. To fix this problem I have to
recycle the scanner power and scan an image in ScanWizard under
Windows95. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
